AICTE, INAE launch Rs 38.35 crore CEEE program to upskill 4,000 engineering faculty members

NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) recently signed a pact to launch the Centre of Engineering Education Excellence (CEEE) program.

The initiative in collaboration with 5 IITs - IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Kharagpur - has received a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding of Rs 38.35 crore from the Infosys Foundation.

The CEEE programme is designed to enhance the teaching capabilities of faculty members from tier2 and tier 4 engineering colleges in India. The faculty mentorship will focus majorly on 5 engineering domains - computer science and IT, including data science and AI/ ML , electrical, electronics and instrumentation, mechanical, aerospace and energy, materials, chemical and biomedical engineering, and civil and environmental engineering.

The AICTE chairman TG Sitharam hailed the initiative as a “bold step towards empowering young engineering educators” and a "catalyst to uplift the teaching quality in AICTE-accredited institutions”.

Speaking at the event, Sitharam said: "This initiative will mentor faculty members on how to become mentors themselves. Through recorded lectures and freely accessible online resources, the impact of CEEE will reach all engineering institutions, ensuring quality improvement across the sector."

CEEE to upskill 4,000 engineering faculty

The mentorship programme aims to upskill 4,000 engineering faculty over the next 3 years. Teachers who enrol for the CEEE programme will have to participate in a hybrid model of two-week in-person mentorship during May-July and three-week virtual mentorship module in December.

“The program’s broader objectives include enhancing the teaching-learning process, pedagogical practices, and ensuring faculty are better equipped to face the emerging challenges in engineering education,” the council said.

• The CEEE mentorship curriculum and resource materials, accessible via the CEEE website, are open to all engineering schools.
• Mentees will be provided stipends covering travel and accommodation during in-person training.
• Honorarium for mentors drawn from premier institutions.
• Recorded lectures and model teaching aids freely available to the public.
