Assam government to reopen schools for Class 10 from September 20

NEW DELHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state will reopen all high schools, high madrassas, residential schools, and day boarding schools for Classes 10 and above from September 20.

The chief minister said, “In the weekly Assam Cabinet, we took several major decisions regarding rhino protection, reopening of Class 10, the premium for crop insurance, developing seed farms, State holiday on Karam Puja, ending license system for rickshaws, funds for infrastructure work, among others.”

Classes for Class 10 students in high schools high madrassas, residential schools, and day boarding schools for both government and private to reopen from September 20, CM said in a tweet.

The government has also instructed authorities of schools to ensure that all employees and workers are fully vaccinated.

The state government had announced to reopen schools from September 1, however, it dropped the plan citing health concerns. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority issued COVID-19 guidelines for resuming physical classes for postgraduate, graduate, and higher secondary final year students with at least one dose of vaccine.

Assam reported more COVID-19 recoveries than fresh cases on Wednesday as 706 patients recuperated from the disease while 444 new infections pushed the tally to 5,96,606, the National Health Mission said, according to PTI. However, the recovery rate marginally declined to 98.13 per cent from 98.08 per cent on Tuesday.
