NEW DELHI: The BITS Pilani has launched interdisciplinary courses for science and commerce students. The institute has also introduced a 2+2 international collaboration programme where students will be able to earn dual degree.
The objective of the overhauls in the curriculum is to expand learning opportunities for students, the institute said. As part of the interdisciplinary programme, the Physics Chemistry Biology (PCB) students are now eligible for environmental sciences and engineering courses, it added.
Ramgopal Rao, vice-chancellor, BITS Pilani, said: “The world of science and technology is changing very fast, and so must the education system. These programs underscore our efforts to equip learners with competencies for ever-changing sectors. With the infusion of interdisciplinary approach and strong industry relationships, we are making sure that the graduates are able to take charge of the semiconductor industry as well as in environmental conservation leadership.”
The institute has added two new courses to its curriculum, which includes Master of Science (MSc) in semiconductor and nanoscience, and Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in environmental and sustainability engineering.
BITS Pilani: Interdisciplinary courses, international programme
The BE in environmental and sustainability engineering programme is open for both PCM and PCB students. The course covers areas such as renewable energy, pollution management, infrastructure development, and climate change mitigation. It also includes hands-on training in GIS, remote sensing, and environmental data analysis, preparing graduates for roles in environmental policy, green energy, and corporate sustainability.
The MSc in semiconductor and nanoscience course is introduced to address the growing demand for expertise in semiconductor technology, nanofabrication, and future electronic materials.
The masters programme offers a solid theoretical background and hands-on experience in the combination of physics, chemistry and biology. “With India's Semiconductor Mission and the National Quantum Mission driving industrial growth, this course prepares students for careers in semiconductor businesses, research institutions, and high-tech startups,” the institute said.
As part of its 2+2 international collaborative programme, students will be able to earn two degrees, one from BITS and another from an international university. The global institutions that are part of the programme includes RMIT University Melbourne -Australia, SUNY Buffalo (University of Buffalo-USA), Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Ames-USA, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY- USA.
Recently, BITS Pilani in Goa developed a software to screen radical content online. The idea was originated from a hackathon, which was organised by Goa Police, the institute said.
