A Class 12 student has approached the Supreme Court, challenging the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)’s failure to declare his results after three of his five improvement exams were cancelled due to war-related tensions in the Gulf region, the Bar and Bench reported.

The student appeared for the CBSE improvement exam 2026 from Saudi Arabia for Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English, and Computer Science subjects. However, due to the Iran-Israel war and its impact on Saudi Arabia, CBSE cancelled exams for three subjects out of five in the Gulf region, the report said.

Pransu Jigarkumar Patel, a private candidate who sat for the CBSE Class 12 improvement exam 2026 from Al Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, filed the plea in the Supreme Court, it added.

While he wrote the Physics and Chemistry papers, his other three exams were cancelled by CBSE amid security concerns in West Asian countries. Consequently, his result status continues to reflect “Result Later (RL)" even after the board declared results for other students on May 13, it said.

Arguing his stance, the petitioner stated that non-declaration of his result is “arbitrary, unreasonable, discriminatory” and violates Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution, as per the report.

“CBSE subsequently issued a notification titled “Assessment Scheme for Declaration of Results of Class XII in West Asian Countries” on March 27, to enable the declaration of marks for students whose exams were cancelled,” the report read.

Under the assessment scheme, the marks for cancelled exams were to be calculated on the basis of quarterly, half-yearly and pre-board exam performance, it added.

Patel urged the court to direct CBSE to apply this scheme to his case, using his academic records from International Indian School, Al Jubail, the report said.

In the report, Patel stated: “The delay has directly affected his higher education prospects. I had applied for the BTech Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence programme at Dhirubhai Ambani University on May 2 and paid the registration fee, but the university asked me to update my Class 12 result status by June 1, a deadline I was unable to meet.”

The report further added that despite approaching CBSE on May 17, 21 and 30, neither Patel nor his father received any response from the board.

Patel has asked the court to direct the board to conduct special examinations or re-tests for the three cancelled subjects, the report said.
