What began as a social media complaint by a CBSE Class 12 student over 'someone else’s handwriting' in his answer sheet has now triggered wider concerns over answer script management and evaluation processes. Central Board of Secondary Education has admitted to an answer sheet mix-up in at least in this case after student alleged that scanned copies uploaded under his roll number did not belong to them. This comes after several students flagged similar discrepancies in their answer sheets.

CBSE student Vedant posted on social media claiming that the handwriting in the scanned physics answer sheet uploaded under his roll number was not his own. This raised doubts whether his actual answer sheet had been evaluated at all. Other students also reported similar concerns after accessing photocopies of their answer sheets through CBSE’s revaluation portal.

Vedant posted again on X clarifying that CBSE examined the matter and that the correct answer sheet had now been shared with him.

“Upon review, the matter has been examined, and the correct copy of your answer book has been sent to your registered email address. Necessary action for updating your result, as applicable, is also being undertaken accordingly,” CBSE wrote in its response. Later, the student confirmed on social media that CBSE officials had contacted him and shared what he claimed was his actual answer sheet.

While CBSE has assured corrective action in the identified case, students continue to seek clarity on whether the board will formally investigate other complaints of mismatched answer sheets raised after the Class 12 results were declared.

“We have got my correct answer sheet by CBSE. The officials reached out to us in the evening and has sent my answer sheet. We were correct on our claims and the answer sheet indeed got exchanged,” he posted. In subsequent posts, the student said he and his family had faced “mental harassment” after raising the issue publicly. “People called us anti-national and Pakistani just because we raised a genuine concern and at the end truth has prevailed,” he wrote, urging the board to investigate whether similar errors had affected other students as well. “I urge CBSE to look into this answer sheet exchange issue more clearly and deeply for all the other students who are facing this same issue as me,” he said.

CBSE post-result process under scrutiny

The controversy has intensified scrutiny of CBSE’s post-result processes. Over the past few days, several students and parents reported difficulties accessing scanned answer sheets, submitting verification requests, and applying for re-evaluation through the CBSE portal. Many users complained that the website repeatedly crashed or became inaccessible during peak hours.

Following the concerns, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that technical experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and IIT Kanpur would assist CBSE in strengthening the portal infrastructure.

In a latest update, IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti said a four-member expert team from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur has started investigating the recent glitches in the CBSE portal, including payment failures and complaints regarding answer sheet uploads. Speaking to PTI, Kamakoti said the team began examining the issue on Monday evening to identify whether the disruption was caused by technical errors, development issues, or even a possible cyber attack. He added that the CBSE portal has remained stable over the last 72 hours. The team will conduct a detailed review of the website, payment gateway integration, and On-Screen Marking system to recommend measures for a more robust and transparent platform.

Acting on the payment gateway issues, Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday held discussions with senior officials of SBI, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, and Indian Bank to strengthen CBSE’s payment gateway system following recent technical glitches during post-result services. The minister directed banks to help establish a reliable and student-friendly payment ecosystem with faster grievance redressal, automatic refunds for failed transactions, and improved technical safeguards. The banks assured full support and said upgraded payment protocols would be implemented in coordination with CBSE at the earliest.
