Decision on CUCET to be made within 10 days: Report

NEW DELHI : The government is expected to make a final call on the commencement of the CUCET examination this year, within the next seven or 10 days, as per the report by The Indian Express .

“The final decision on CUCET is likely to be shared by the government in the next one week or 10 days. While we may begin the admission process in July, the intricacies of admissions such as criteria for cut-off lists, normalisation of Class 12 marks, can only be discussed after the board results are declared across the country,” acting Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University, PC Joshi told The Indian Express .

Joshi is also a part of the seven-member committee , headed by the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab which has submitted its report for the modalities and implementation of the CUCET exam to the education ministry.

While the Ministry of Education is yet to take any decision on the commencement of the CUCET exam form this year, many central universities like Aligarh Muslim University , University of Hyderabad and Jamia Millia Islamia have already started their admissions process and decided to do away with the CUCET exam for admissions to forthcoming academic session. However, Delhi University has still left its doors unclosed for the CUCET exam.

Joshi further said in the report that the university is hoping for CUCET to become a reality. He added that since different boards have adopted different marking schemes for the Class 12th result, this year and the admission process is going to get delayed till September, a central exam can bring uniformity to the admission process.

The University of Delhi is likely to start the DU admission process for entrance based and postgraduate courses from the third week of July. The entrance-based admission will begin at least a week prior to the UG merit-based admissions.

Rajeev Gupta, chairman, DU admissions, told PTI , "We might start the registration process (for admissions) by the third week of July. There are chances that we might start the registration process for the nine entrance-based courses and postgraduate courses by that time in the first phase and then the registration process for the merit-based courses. The gap between the two phases won't be more than a week or 10 days."

Earlier, while welcoming the Class 12 evaluation criteria announced by the CBSE board, Joshi had said that if the CUCET does not happen this year, we will decide on some mature method of evaluation and prepare merit lists accordingly.
