The response comes a day after Delhi High Court questioned the Delhi University's decision to admit students to the law course solely based on CLAT.
The petition filed by Prince Singh, a law student at Campus Law Centre in Delhi University, sought that the admissions to the five-year integrated law course be done through the CUET-UG 2023 like other central universities.
“Under the National Education Policy, once the decision is taken by the Government of India, Ministry of Education that admissions are to be done in central universities only on the basis of CUET, then you are not special. Very sorry,” a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula said, as per the PTI report.
The bench has also granted time to the counsel for DU to seek further instructions in the matter. The next hearing is slated for August 25.
The petition further stated that all central universities were instructed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to admit students to law courses based on CUET UG score.
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has approved 120 seats - 60 seats for BA LLB (Hons) and 60 seats for BBA LLB (Hons).
