NEW DELHI : Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, on Thursday, directed district magistrates to not allott bird flu prevention duties to school teachers.
In an order released on bird flu in Delhi on Tuesday, district magistrates had put up a list of officials who were in charge of restricting vehicles carrying poultry without valid certification and to restrict the “sale of dressed, processed and canned chicken”. Five teachers were named in the list.
Delhi Government school teachers had called the move to assign such duties “an insult to the teaching position”.
Manish Sisodia, in a note to the chief secretary of Delhi, said: “Teachers are not meant for this kind of duty and they are all busy in online classes. Moreover, for students of Classes 10 and 12 the government has already announced special practical classes from Monday onwards.” Schools in Delhi are reopening for Classes 10 and 12 from January 18 although attendance is not compulsory.
“It is therefore directed that no deployment of teachers is permitted for duties related to prevention of ingress of avian influenza in the National Capital Territory of Delhi.”
