NEW DELHI : The Delhi University will be admitting students from other universities who are registered under the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) system as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) . Students from other universities will have to pass an entrance test to be eligible for admission through lateral entry from next year.
The ABC system is part of the NEP in which students are allowed multiple entry and exit options throughout the degree. ABC also allows students to pursue a blended mode of learning, a mixture of online and offline learning, from various educational institutions. The ABC was officially launched in July 2021 by prime minister Narendra Modi.

The decision regarding lateral admission was taken at the Executive Council meeting held in the last week of September when the university passed the NEP recommendations. Those minutes are up for confirmation in the forthcoming EC meeting.
DU Admission: Academics, infrastructure
However, Delhi University said that the number of seats for students from other universities through lateral entry will be decided on the basis of “academic and infrastructural facilities”.
“The seats for lateral entry may be worked out on the basis of the academic and infrastructural facilities available keeping in view the relevant norms, such as student-teacher ratio, teaching-non-teaching staff ratio, laboratory, library, teaching learning tools, etc.,” the recommendations of the committee on implementation of NEP say.
The university also decided that the re-entry of DU students through lateral entry can also be allowed through the ABC.
The NEP structure of Delhi University was passed within the Academic Council in the last week of August amid dissent from certain members who called the structure “not fit for discussing”. Teachers have also raised concerns that the multiple-entry and exit systems and blended learning options will dilute the quality of the degree.
