NEW DELHI: University of Delhi is the most sought after institute in India to pursue undergraduate courses. The university will offer admission based on the combination of language, domain specific subjects and general test in which a candidate has appeared in Common University Entrance Test - UG (CUET UG 2024).
Delhi University has 16 faculties, 86 academic departments, 91 colleges and over seven lakh students. It offers a total of 540 programmes approved by Academic and Executive Councils.
The university fills about 80,000 seats in UG courses, however, admission to the School of Open Learning (SOL), Non-Collegiate Women Education Board (NCWEB) and for Foreign Nationals are not done through CUET UG 2024. The university received the highest number of around 26 lakh applications this year for pursuing various UG courses, as per the Times of India report.
DU admission criteria 2024
Delhi University will grant admission only through CUET UG score for the academic year 2024-25. As per the admission criteria, it is mandatory for students to appear in CUET UG exam 2024 in those subjects they have studied and passed Class 12 board exam 2024 or equivalent exam.
In case the subject studied at Class 12 is not given in the UG entrance exam, then they should appear in the language or domain specific subject that is similar or closely related. Eg. if a student studied biochemistry in Class 12, they should appear in Biology.
“For establishing similarity of CUET (UG) subjects with subjects taken in Class XII, at least 50% of the syllabus should match. The university reserves the right for establishing similarities,” DU information brochure read.
DU admission and allocation will be based only on the combination of language, domain specific subjects and/or general test in which a candidate has appeared in CUET UG 2024 as per the respective programme-specific eligibility.
Popular courses in Delhi University
As per last year’s data on DU CSAS portal, Ramjas College, Kirori Mal College, Sri Venkateswara College, and Delhi College of Arts and Commerce received highest number of over 55,000 applications for BCom course .
This was followed by English and political science and economics and Hindu College has been preferred by most students. For BA (Hons) English, Hans Raj College and St Stephen's College were most preferred after Hindu College.
DU programme-specific-eligibility 2024
The domain specific subjects mentioned in section 2 of CUET UG 2024 have been categorized under List B1 and List B2.
List B1 includes 18 subjects - accountancy, anthropology, biology, biological studies / biotechnology / biochemistry, business studies, chemistry, computer science / informatics practices, economics / business economics, environmental studies, geography / geology, history, home science, legal studies, mathematics/ applied mathematics, physics, political science, psychology, sanskrit, and sociology.
List B2 includes 9 subjects - agriculture, engineering graphics, entrepreneurship, fine arts / visual arts (sculpture/ painting)/ commercial arts, knowledge tradition and practices of India, mass media / mass communication, performing arts, physical education / NCC / yoga, teaching aptitude.
