DU likely to conduct complete admission process online from this year

NEW DELHI : To provide some ease and relaxation to the students and parents and to make the process smooth and hitch-free, the University of Delhi may conduct the complete admission process for academic session 2020-21 in online mode. The proposal has been planned in a meeting held by the admission committee. It will be put forward in the next academic council meeting. The university has also formed a separate Dean of Admissions committee headed by Shobha Bagai, professor at the University of Delhi. In addition, a committee of 15 members has been set up by the chairman of Dean’s Student Welfare, Rajiv Gupta

“The process will provide relief to both students and teachers. Students come from various parts of the country and abroad. Parents and students face a lot of issues during admissions. Thus, making admissions online, the students will be able to take admissions without running from pillar to post” said a DU official in a report by The New Indian Express .

Until last year, applicants have to visit their desired college for finishing the document verification process after the cut off lists are released. However, the pre-admission process is done in online mode. Once the approval has been done, the students need to select the desired college and program, upload the scanned documents and pay the admission fee. When the admission process is over, they will get one month’s time to visit the college and get the documents verified.

Last year, the university received around 2,58,388 applications for admission in UG courses. The university offers a total of 62,000 seats (after implementation of 10% EWS quota) in undergraduate programmes offered by its affiliated colleges.

Delhi University admission process for PG programmes will be started from April 2. The last date of registration will be April 30. The admissions in the postgraduate programmes are done with the help of an entrance test, known as Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET). The entrance test will be conducted from June 2 to June 9 and the result will be announced on June 25. However, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has directed the National Testing Agency, the conducting body of DUET, to revise the exam schedule as the whole nation went down for a complete 21 days lockdown to combat the COVID 19 pandemic.
