From Chalkboards to Chipsets: Dharmendra Pradhan outlines AI-driven education reforms at 'PadhAI' conclave

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan delivered the valedictory address at the concluding session of the ‘PadhAI: Conclave on AI in Education’ held in New Delhi. The two-day event was organised by the Centre of Policy Research and Governance (CPRG).

Speaking at the event, Pradhan said artificial intelligence is acting as a bridge between empathy and technology. He said AI should be seen not just as a tool but as a catalyst for innovation. He added that the country’s human intelligence should take the lead in the ongoing AI revolution.

“Shri Pradhan also stated that the time has come for the country's human intelligence to lead the AI revolution currently unfolding,” he said.

The minister outlined various initiatives taken by the government in the field of AI, including the setting up of the Centre of Excellence in AI and measures to promote the use of AI in Indian languages and classrooms. These efforts, he said, aim to move education from chalkboards to chipsets.

He further said that integrating AI in school education is no longer optional and urged academicians and technology experts to suggest policy recommendations on AI.

“Integrating AI in school education is no longer optional, it is essential, he stressed. He called on academicians and tech experts to brainstorm ideas and come up with policy recommendations on AI,” the official press release said.

The PadhAI Conclave presented various perspectives on the role of artificial intelligence in the future of Indian education. Speakers discussed how AI is taking learning beyond classrooms, changing higher education, and addressing the issues present in current institutions.

Chamu Krishna Shastri, chairman of the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti under the Ministry of Education, CPRG director, Ramanand and other officials were present.
