NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) and Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Japan, have collaborated to strategise Vision 2050: Roadmap for the global automotive giant. The contract was signed in Kozhikode on September 7, 2022, by Kinji Saito, Director and Senior Managing Officer of Suzuki Motor Corporation, and Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIMK.
The IIM Kozhikode research will cover SMC's success in India, the company's effects on the Indian economy and greater Indian society, as well as the factors that have contributed to its continued dominance in Indian markets. IIMK will connect the Indo-Japan success story (Maruti Suzuki India Limited) (1981-2022) with a strategic roadmap for business imperatives beyond mobility for SMC over the next 30 years, as per an official statement from the institute.

The SMC 2050 Vision will provide IIMK experts with the chance to visit their headquarters in Japan and India and conduct interviews with senior SMC executives and members of the mobility ecosystem. Saito said, “We are looking forward to this new collaboration with IIMK. We hope that this initiative will encourage new ideas and contribute to the growth of everyone involved.”
Addressing the Vision 2050: Roadmap for the global automotive giant, Chatterjee said, “The fascinating story of the success of Maruti-Suzuki has many invaluable lessons not just for the corporate leaders but also for entrepreneurs, who never give up and doggedly hold on to their work ethics and organizational culture. IIM Kozhikode’s attempt to capture and decipher the lessons from SMC’s history to chart a Vision 2050 document for the next 30 years will be an exercise and contribution in thought leadership endeavouring to create a global impact on the future of mobility deeply embedded in civilisational values.”
