IIM Mumbai to launch 7 new online courses in logistics, supply chain management
IIM Mumbai has won LEAPS 2024 award in the logistics sector category. The seven new online courses will be launched on Swayam portal.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai is set to launch seven new online courses on Swayam portal for the logistics and supply chain management sector, the institute director Manoj Kumar Tiwari announced at an interaction with media on Wednesday.
The institute has submitted the content of the courses to education ministry and is awaiting for their rollout. A course on 'Digital supply chain, designed by the B-school, is already running on Swayam and has so far benefited around 3,500 students.
Tiwari said that the institute has been leading an effort to train and upskill the professionals and students in various aspects of logistics and supply chain management , believing that the sector is set to grow considerably in upcoming years.
IIM Mumbai new courses
The new set of courses in IIM Mumbai includes topics aimed at fostering expertise in the tech-driven logistics landscape. The new courses include:
- Al/ML in port management
- Supply chain digitisation
- Role of Blockchain in supply chain transformation
- E-commerce supply chain
- Cybersecurity in supply chain
- Digital infrastructure and technology in supply chain management
IIM Mumbai has conducted 14 online courses to train industry personnel as well as students as the nodal agency for PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, a central government programme to connect various modes of transport with logistics infrastructure.

In the last two years, it has also run a similar number of short-term programmes, which has benefited 25,000 supply chain management professionals and aspirants. Most of them are micro-credit courses spanning 15 to 30 hours, with an emphasis on sharing experiences and case studies.
The institute has also collaborated with other higher education institutes, such as BITS Pilani and IIT BHU, as well as companies such as Flipkart and Accenture, to train their students and employees, respectively. It has also sent it's faculty members to warehouses and other facilities to keep themselves abreast of newer advancements in the sector, while also hoping in some foreign experts.
IIM Mumbai wins LEAPS 2024 award
IIM Mumbai has won the Logistics Excellence, Advancement & Performance Shield (LEAPS) 2024 award in the logistics sector category. The institute has secured first rank amongst 34 participants in the ‘Institutions: Education and skill development.’
The award aims at exceptional contributions and innovations within the logistics ecosystem, highlighting MSMEs, startups, and key enablers who demonstrate transformative practices and significant impact, as per an official statement by the institute.
Over 2 crore people in logistics sector
The director said that currently around 2.25 crore people are involved in the logistics sector in the country. However, the number is estimated to grow by 1-1.2 crore till 2030. He said that the institute seeks to leverage the technological advancements such as the internet of things, Blockchain and e-commerce to improve operations at logistic industry by building resilience and offer better predictions.
Through online platforms such as Swayam and Swayam Plus, the institute offers flexible learning opportunities for both students and working professionals.
