IIMB welcomes new batch of MBA and PGP Business Analytics students online

NEW DELHI: A total of 483 students were welcomed to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore and to the two-year full time MBA programme on Sunday.

IIMB is holding a three-day orientation programme for the new batch of 2021-23 which also includes 45 students who have joined the full-time MBA in business analytics or MBA BA. Out of the total strength, only 144 women candidates have joined as compared to 339 men candidates.

The virtual orientation program will be held from June 28 to June 30 which will include interaction of the new students with faculty members and other senior officials of the school regarding introduction to the programmes, learning online, administrative matters.

IIMB’s other programmes, activities, centres, committees and facilities will also be introduced to the new students in the upcoming days of orientation. Interaction with alumni groups has been scheduled.

Most from engineering -- IITs, NITs

As many as 347 students, constituting nearly 72 percent, are from an engineering background. The batch consists of 32.56% of the engineers from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and 31.12% of the engineers from the National Institute of Technology (NIT).

The batch of 2021-23 also holds a GMAT median score of 730 along with an average work experience of about 23.47 months. “Altogether 13 candidates have a professional qualification (CA/CS/ICWA). The PGP batch has five overseas candidates (including one South Korean) and the rest 478 have gained admission through the Common Admission Test (CAT),” an official statement said.

In the postgraduate programme in business analytics, there are 51.11% men and 48.89% women and most are from an engineering background, followed by students from arts, science and management. The average work experience of the new batch is 31 months.

Director of IIMB , Rishikesha Krishnan assured students joining the programme virtually that the campus will reopen as soon as the COVID-19 situation improves. “We are watching the situation closely, once the situation improves, once it is safe again and the government lifts sanctions, we will try to get you to the campus with hybrid learning and then physical classes, and give you the full MBA experience. You are on the verge of what may be the most memorable years of your careers. Once you are on campus, I would connect with you in person,” he said.
