IISER Thiruvananthapuram introduces 5-year integrated and interdisciplinary science programme
IISER TVM introduces 5-year BS-MS programme in five streams. Students can select 1 of 5 streams after finishing 2-year common foundation course.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER TVM) has introduced a five-year bachelor and master of science (BS-MS) flagship programme called the integrated and interdisciplinary sciences (i2Sc). The course includes 5 streams, at the end of the two-year common foundation course, the student can opt for one of the five advanced courses in core discipline ending in a year-long research project in the year five.
Each of the five streams are based on a core discipline as re associated with thematic areas. These streams aim to provide students with analytic and cognitive skills based in the curriculum and training in research. The curriculum includes courses in allied topics like scientific communication, intellectual property rights (IPR), entrepreneurship and ethics.

Apart from the existing BS-MS programmes and newly launched BS-MS i2Sc programmes, the IISER Thiruvananthapuram also offers programmes such as master of science (MSc) and integrated and direct PhD programmes.
Speaking about the unique course pedagogy and industry-oriented curriculum of the i2Sc programme, IISER TVM, director, JN Moorthy, said: “The unique curriculum of IISER TVM provides its students a veritable learning experience with an integrated course content and interdisciplinary research exposure. The programs being offered by the Institute take its students through rigorous training and prepares them for competing at the global level. Our programs expose the students to collaborative research across disciplines preparing them for the unforeseen challenges of tomorrow. The Institute is also working on bringing futuristic developments into its curriculum by developing a new program on Earth, Environmental and Sustainability Science. This program aligns with the National Education Policy and envisages to produce a rich pool of competent and skilled graduates necessary for pursuing research in complex, arduous and challenging scientific problems of contemporary interest.”
