The IIT BHU student parliament demanded appointment of a lawyer and monitoring committee to review the investigation process.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT BHU) student’s parliament is holding a protest outside the director’s office, demanding arrest of persons who allegedly molested a second-year engineering student.
The protest started at 10 AM this morning. The students also held a ‘pen down’ strike and boycotted all classes and academic activities.
The IIT BHU student’s parliament accused the police of easing upon the investigation. “There is no concrete update or arrest of any culprit till now. Why is the police showing negligence,” the students' body questioned.
The students have demanded the institute to appoint a lawyer for the legal consultancy for the case and any further such incident, and a monitoring committee to review the investigation process.
The IIT BHU student parliament also demanded the overhaul of the proctorial board and resignation of chief proctor Sunil Mohan. The protesters also asked for monitored entry and exit of all IIT BHU students. But they expressed displeasure over building a wall around IIT BHU campus and dividing the BHU premises.

On November 5, IIT BHU organised a meeting on student security on campus after the recent case of molestation of an engineering student. The institute and the BHU decided to take measures to increase vigil by increasing surveillance under CCTV coverage and lighting on the roads.
The members also resolved not to create a boundary wall between the two educational institutions as they found it not feasible. The institutes have also formed a joint committee of faculty members which would work towards safety of students.
