IIT Delhi's SPP places its 1st MPP batch; 47% in think tanks, research institutions

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi's School of Public Policy (SPP) has successfully placed the students of its first-ever batch of Masters in Public Policy (MPP) graduates. The inaugural batch, consisting of 21 students, received their degrees during the Institute's 54th annual convocation held on August 12, 2023.
A total of 19 students out of 21 actively participated in the placement process. Among them, 18 students secured a total of 21 offers from various organisations. A total of 27 prominent organisations took part in the placement drive, offering 30 different roles. Two students from the inaugural batch have opted to pursue academic research, with one of them enrolling in a PhD programme.

According to the institute throughout their MPP programme, students engaged with various organisations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, International Rice Research Institute, ID Insight, and WRI, among others. Students also completed their internships during the summer break after their first year, partnering with organisations like EY, NITI Aayog, Sattva Consulting, Social Alpha, and the Data Security Council of India.
As per the SPP, 47 percent of the graduates secured positions in think tanks and research institutions, 21 percent secured consulting roles, 16 percent of students got in government positions, and another 16 percent in other organisations including CEEW, EY, Foundation for Advancing Science and Technology (FAST) India, India Semiconductor Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Wadhwani AI, WASH Institute, and the World Resource Institute.

The placements according to the school are done in various sectors which include 58 percent in the public and social sectors, 11 percent in energy and climate change-related fields, and 16 percent in the dynamic digital economy, and the remaining cohort will be pursuing science and technology policy.
