IIT Guwahati awards 2,265 degrees to UG, PG, PhD students at 28th convocation ceremony

IIT Guwahati Convocation 2026: The engineering institute conferred 932 BTech, 50 BDes, 556 MTech, 60 MDes, 412 PhD and dual (masters plus PhD), 170 MSc, 44 MA, 14 MS, and 27 MBA students at its 28th ceremony.
The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) conferred degrees to 2,265 students, including 982 undergraduate (UG), 871 postgraduate (PG) and 412 PhD during its 28th convocation ceremony. The institute also awarded 4 gold medals and 18 silver medals to top-performing students.
According to an official statement, IIT Guwahati conferred 932 BTech, 50 BDes, 556 MTech, 60 MDes, 412 PhD and dual (masters plus PhD), 170 MSc, 44 MA, 14 MS, and 27 MBA students during the convocation.
Notably, Saptarshi Mukherjee, a BTech student from data science and artificial intelligence was the topper of the UG batch and was presented with the President of India Gold Medal.
IIT Guwahati launches MTech in robotics, artificial intelligence
Another BTech graduate in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Atri Chattopadhyay, also received the Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal.
Moreover, Praneel Bhattacharya, from MTech in the chemical engineering branch, also received the Governor of Assam PG Gold Medal, while Sarthak Kapoor, BTech in computer science and engineering, was given the Governor of Assam UG Gold Medal.
Dr Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO, Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), was the chief guest at the IIT Guwahati convocation.
At IIT Guwahati, Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, said: “As our graduating students embark on diverse career paths, whether in higher education, industry, entrepreneurship, administration, management, or academia, I extend my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to each one of them. I am confident that, with their knowledge, hard work, and dedication, they will excel in their chosen professions and make meaningful contributions to society and the nation.”
In addition, the technology institute is currently working on 290 research and consultancy projects worth Rs 300 crore.
IIT Guwahati also launched a MTech degree program in robotics and artificial intelligence. It has also collaborated with institutions in the United Kingdom and Japan to deepen collaboration in artificial intelligence, healthcare, research, and student mobility.
