NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT) Kharagpur has reduced the quarantine period from seven to three days for the students who are being called back to the campus.
According to the Telegraph India report, “Once the quarantine period for a student is over, he or she shifts to hostels, from where they can attend online classes or go to labs.” The new guidelines will be followed from the start of November.
“The period of quarantine has been reduced from seven to three days following an appeal from the students’ senate. We have also consulted doctors, who told us we could try the model experimentally for a month or so. The reduction is intended to increase the inflow of students to the campus,” Dhrubajyoti Sen, the dean of students said, as per the report.
Earlier this month, IIT Kharagpur announced to call over 500 final year BTech students back to the campus from November following a survey that found about 42% were facing connectivity problems at home.
The students who return to the Institute need to be doubly vaccinated against Covid-19, the institute had said.
IIT Kharagpur had called back over 500 students in August as they were facing problems attending online classes due to connectivity issues. They had been called back following a demand from the students’ body.
