IIT Madras Admission 2024-25: Registration window opens for BS Degree programmes; eligibility
IIT Madras BS Degree Programmes: The deadline to apply for the upcoming batch is May 26.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is accepting applications for the next batch of 4-year BS in data science, applications and electronic systems. Students can choose the number of courses they want to take each semester. The IIT Madras BS degree will be awarded once 142 credits are earned., by the students.
The Electronic Systems programme combines theoretical and laboratory research. The lab experiments are designed such that students may do them at home and report their results. Students will visit the IIT Madras campus for their final assessment.
The deadline to apply for the upcoming batch is May 26, 2024. Interested students can fill the application form at apply online on the official website at study.iitm.ac.in.
IIT Madras BS Degree Programmes: Course delivery
Content delivery is online with monthly in-person exams conducted on Sundays at examination centers in more than 150 cities across the country.
Vignesh Muthuvijayan, professor-in-charge, Data Science programme, said, “As data continues to grow in importance, the demand for skilled data scientists is expected to remain high. The integration of online learning with in-person invigilated exams offers a flexible and comprehensive learning experience for students, where learning can be at one’s own pace while the in-person assessments validate the skills and knowledge acquired through online learning.”
IIT Madras BS Degree Programmes: Eligibility
Students can enter the programme through a self-contained qualifying procedure without taking the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The second option is direct admission for individuals who have qualified to take the JEE Advanced 2023 or 2024. Students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds are eligible for scholarships of up to 75%.
Students from various disciplines, including engineering, humanities, business, economics, sciences, law, and medicine, can apply for the BS in Data Science and Applications, while those who have completed Maths and Physics in class XII can apply for the BS in Electronics Systems.
A Qualifier is embedded into the programme, and the candidate must complete four weeks of content from the first four courses of the foundation level. Learners who pass the qualification test will be granted admission to the foundation level.

Sharing her experience on taking the BS Data Science programmes, Yalini S, a student from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, said: “Despite not having a computer background, the Computational Thinking and Intro to Python courses have laid a strong foundation for learning coding. The skills and concepts acquired in the BS Data Science programme that were most helpful in securing a Data Science internship were prominently from the MLP project. They played a crucial role in the technical round.”
