IIT Madras to bring UG students back to campus batch by batch from 2022
IIT Madras masters students admitted in 2020 are now on campus on a voluntary basis to get some valuable hands-on experience before they graduate next summer.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras director Bhaskar Ramamurthi said that the institute is planning to bring the undergraduate students back to campus batch by batch from 2022.
Speaking at the 58th convocation ceremony, the IIT Madras director said, “Research scholars are back on campus for the most part so that they can pursue their laboratory work. The Masters students admitted in 2020 are now on campus on a voluntary basis to get some valuable hands-on experience before they graduate next summer.”
He said, “We propose to bring back the undergraduate students batch by batch in the new year, and hope that the improving pandemic situation permits us to do so without hindrance.”
“Since March 2020, we have continued all our classes online. While this is not a satisfactory situation, we at least been able to ensure the students continue to progress in the respective degree programmes on schedule,” he added.

IIT Madras held its 58th convocation on November 20. As many as 2,425 degrees (including Joint and Dual Degrees) were awarded to students on the occasion. IIT Madras saw the highest number of PhDs awarded in an academic year – 392, which includes PhDs, Joint Degree PhDs with foreign institutions and Dual Degree PhDs.
IIT Madras startups have filed over 200+ patents, and 10% of the startups are founded by women, and 12% by IIT Madras faculty, as per the annual report.
