IIT Madras startup and AICTE will upskill 10 lakh Indians in coding in a day. They aim for the world record.
New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras-incubated startup GUVI is collaborating with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to upskill 10 lakh Indians in coding through a one-day free workshop, a statement from the institute said. The event will be held on April 24 and registration for it has already begun
It has been designed for students as well as information technology (IT) and non-IT professionals. In fact, anyone in the age group of 8 to 80 years with an interest in coding is eligible. GUVI came up in 2014 and offers several courses via the IIT Madras Digital Skills Academy .
Largest coding workshop online
With ‘AI-For-India 1.0’, AICTE and the IIT Madras start-up are hoping to set the world record for the largest coding workshop conducted online, the statement further said.
“We have come up with an initiative along with GUVI that got selected for NEAT (National Education Alliance for Technology) to upskill 10 lakh students in Artificial Intelligence. Our collaboration will surely set a World Record”, said Buddha Chandrasekhar, chief coordinating officer, AICTE, ministry of education.
“The world experiences different revolutions. Currently, we are on the brink of the coding or AI revolution. You do not need to be a developer but you need to understand what is happening. You need to be well-informed on what your data means to you and what it means to others so you can make informed decisions without depending on the opinion of others”, said Arun Prakash, founder and chief operating officer, GUVI.
Learning Python
The workshop by industry experts will teach participants to develop face-recognition applications using Python.
All the participants will also gain free access to GUVI’s Python course. This will help them understand the concepts of the Python programming language.
Further, world record event participation certificates and unlimited access to ‘CodeKata,’ a Coding skill-building platform, will be offered to all the participants.
