IIT Roorkee 24th Convocation: 2,513 students awarded degrees; more female students graduating
IIT Roorkee Convocation 2024: A total of 143 awards and medals were awarded to meritorious students. President of NASSCOM was the chief guest of the event.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) celebrated its 24th convocation ceremony today with a total of 2,513 students receiving degrees. Debjani Ghosh, president of NASSCOM was the chief guest of the event. The IIT Roorkee convocation 2024 was also live-streamed on the institute’s official website and social media channels.
This year, a total of 2,513 graduates received degrees, which includes 1,277 undergraduate (UG) students, 794 postgraduate (PG) students, and 442 PhD students. Of them, 1,931 are male and 582 are female students. A total of 143 awards and medals were awarded to meritorious students.
“A significant highlight of this year’s convocation is the remarkable increase in the proportion of graduating female students, soaring from 18.84% in 2022 to an impressive 23.6% in 2024, reflecting IIT Roorkee's steadfast commitment to gender diversity and inclusion,” the institute said. The number of female students graduating increased by 4.32%.
Speaking at the event, IIT Roorkee director KK Pant said: “My congratulations to the graduating class and their families. IIT Roorkee has a rich legacy in engineering and sciences, and our recent achievements underscore our commitment to innovation and excellence. With record patents, prestigious awards, and advancements in technology and infrastructure, we continue to lead in research and development.”
“Our events throughout the year have substantially impacted society by inspiring young minds, promoting sustainability, and advancing industry-academia collaboration. These milestones reflect our ongoing pursuit of progress and our dedication to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047,” he added.
