Independence Day 2024: PM Modi says ‘India indebted to freedom fighters’, delivers 11th I-Day speech

78th Independence Day 2024: The Indian contingent which took part in the Paris Olympics, students benefiting from the Atal Innovation Mission among 6,000 special guests.
NEW DELHI: India is celebrating its 78th Independence Day today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag and is delivering his 11th Independence Day speech 2024 at the Red Fort now. “Country indebted to freedom fighters, it is a day to remember their sacrifices. If 40 crore people can break shackles of slavery to gain freedom, just imagine what can be achieved by the resolve of 140 crore people,” PM Modi said in his I-Day speech.
On August 15, in all parts of the country and also abroad, Indians participate in the flag-hoisting ceremonies, sing patriotic songs, and distribute sweets. Young children participate in cultural events. The Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE ) urged students to hoist national flag and upload selfies during Har Ghar Tiranga drive; which will conclude today.
"Independence Day greetings to my fellow Indians. Jai Hind!," PM Narendra Modi posted on X in English and Hindi. The Indian contingent which took part in the Paris Olympics, students benefiting from the Atal Innovation Mission, workers of the Border Roads Organisation and sarpanches of the gram panchayats are among the 6,000 special guests invited to the 78th Independence Day celebrations.
Wishing the citizens ‘Happy Independence Day to all!’, the Government of India posted on X: “Let’s come together to honour our nation’s freedom, celebrate our rich heritage, and embrace the unity that defines us. Let our nation continue to soar, and may the pride of our Tiranga reach new heights. Jai Hind!” The Centre also used #ViksitBharat #NewIndia to promote the Independence Day theme 2024 “ Viksit Bharat ”.
The ministry of education shared the videos of students and teachers who have been given an opportunity to watch the Independence day celebration live at Red Fort.
“On the eve of #78thIndependenceDay, students from #PMSHRI Schools across the nation embarked on an enlightening excursion to the iconic landmarks like the India Gate and the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya. The expedition has deepened their connection to India's cultural legacy and cultivated a strong feeling of pride and patriotism in the younger generation,” the education ministry said. Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan also reviewed the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP 2020) in schools yesterday.
