No proposal for one-time relaxation in JEE Main 2023 eligibility criteria: Govt

Try NowNEW DELHI: There is no proposal under consideration for one-time relaxation in the eligibility criteria of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2023, minister of state (MoS) for education Subhas Sarkar said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.

The MoS was replying to a question raised by Natarajan P R whether the government has received any representations urging for one-time relaxation in eligibility criteria to the JEE Main 2023 and JEE Advanced 2023 aspirants for those who faced difficulties in 2022 exams and whether it is considering their request. The minister also asked for the reason, if not.

Replying to the question, Sarkar said that the government did receive representations from a few candidates who claimed to have faced issues during the 2022 exams. He informed that as JEE Main is conducted by NTA, the testing agency informed that factual reports were obtained after the complaints by students.
Sarkar said that fter verification, it was found that the affected candidates were allowed to appear in re-exam held on June 29 (shift-2) and June 30 (shift-1) last year for session 1 and on July 30 (shift 1) for session 2. Moreover, candidates who have passed the Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2021, 2022, or appearing in 2023 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2023.

“For the school leaving batch of 2020, the JEE (Main) examination was conducted two times in 2020, four times in 2021 and two times in 2022 giving them sufficient opportunities to take the JEE(Main) examination. Accordingly, there is no proposal under consideration for one-time relaxation in eligibility criteria of JEE (Main) 2023,” Sarkar further added as the reason for not considering the requests.
Last year, Karti P Chidambaram, Member of Parliament, urged the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to intervene and relax the eligibility criteria for students as a one-time for candidates who had their last attempt in the 2022 exam.
Responding to MP’s letter, Pradhan said that the matter has been sent to the concerned department . In a letter, the minister thanked the MP for reaching out to him.
