Mumbai University Admissions 2025: Colleges cite closure of online application process for NAAC accreditation, decide to approach university.
NEW DELHI: Following the suspension of admissions, some colleges affiliated to University of Mumbai have decided to approach the university to request roll back of its decision. About non-accreditation, the colleges reasoned that the process has been moved online and has been shut, thus refraining them to gain recognition.
"Our college couldn't seek NAAC accreditation as the online application process has been shut for more than a year. We had informed the university about this issue but were still put in the defaulters' list. We will now meet the university authorities [to request rollback of admission suspension]," principal of an MU college told Careers360.
A law college cited health issues and a halt on physical inspection. "We have prepared the Self Study Report and other requirement but the physical inspection was put on hold due to the health issue of the college management president. Now that the accreditation process is being moved offline to online, the application portal is shut. We will explain these problems to the university," said the principal.
Notably, MU cancelled the first-year admissions at 229 colleges for the 2025-26 academic session over failure to comply with mandatory accreditation and governance rules. Of these colleges, 156 do not have an approval from either National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) or National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
Despite several reminders, the colleges did not adhere to the rules and regulations, inviting strict action from the Mumbai University and penalisation of Rs 10,000. Earlier today, the university opened registration for BSc, BCom, BA, and other undergraduate courses.
