NCERT has not called any 'meeting on syllabus' with SCERTS: Education Ministry

NEW DELHI : The ministry of education, in an answer to a question in Parliament, has denied that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has conducted any “meeting on syllabus” with education officials of different states.

The ministry’s response comes after state education officials had expressed displeasure at the process followed in the meeting called for the new curriculum framework in June.

Officials at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) of Kerala had criticised the NCERT on the process followed for the drafting of new National Curriculum Framework (NCF) at a meeting held in the last week of June.

However, the ministry of education, on Monday, said that the NCERT “has not conducted any meeting on syllabus with SCERTs”. SCERT officials had told Careers360 that the meeting, held in the last week of June, was called to discuss the new curriculum framework set to replace the NCF 2005.

Officials at Kerala SCERT had raised concerns on the process followed by the central advisory body on curriculum design, NCERT. West Bengal SCERT officials had skipped the meeting altogether.

The NCF acts as a guide to designing textbooks across the country.

Officials of the state had also alleged that the central government had ignored all suggestions sent across by the states on the framing of the National Education Policy 2020.
