All the schools have been closed since mid-March last year when the novel Coronavirus hit the nation. Schools have adopted online education as a mode of study causing a massive transformation in the education sector. However, reopening of schools in offline mode is not mandatory. The school reopening decision will be made voluntarily by the states.

Chhattisgarh government has decided to reopen schools for Classes 10 and 12 from August 2, 2021, reported NDTV, For Classes 1 to 5 and Class 8 in rural areas, the concerned panchayats will take a final call over the resumption of classes.

Rajasthan education minister Govind Dotasra has postponed the reopening of schools in the state. He said that chief minister Ashok Gehlot will take the school reopening decision next week. Earlier, the state government decided to reopen the schools from August 2. Now, the school reopening has been postponed. The Karnataka teachers association has demanded the government to reopen offline schools as soon as possible, as per a report of Times of India.

As new COVID-19 cases are decreasing across UP, Unaided Private School Association (UPSA) has reportedly written to Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma, urging him to resume normal classes in a phased manner from July 19. On July 5, Maharashtra government passed a resolution to reopen schools for Classes 8 to 12 in "COVID-19-free gram panchayats". The schools can reopen after discussing with parents and are required to strictly adhere to the COVID-appropriate standard operating procedure (SOP), as per a report of Hindustan Times. The Bihar School Education Board (BSEB) has extended the last date for the submission of the online application form for admissions into the intermediate class. The last date to fill the application form is July 18, 2021. Candidates can register for Class 11 admissions through the official site of Bihar Board OFSS on ofssbihar.in. As per the latest released CBSE circular, “The syllabus for the academic session 2021-22 will be divided into 2 terms by following a systematic approach by looking into the interconnectivity of concepts and topics by the subject experts and the board will conduct examinations at the end of each term on the basis of the bifurcated syllabus. Andhra Pradesh government is also considering reopening of educational institutions with staggered timings and 50 per cent attendance on alternate days.
The Telangana government has made an announcement on reopening of schools in the state. As per Times of India, AP education minister Adimulapu Suresh said, “We are chalking out plans to reopen schools in August. How we start the classes depends on the third wave of Covid-19. If we feel it is not safe for students, then we might consider staggered timings and 50 per cent attendance on alternate days. But these are still under discussion. Final call will be taken later."
The government is also considering to open schools in two batches with 50% attendance, report added.
Schools and colleges will open in phase manner in Bihar from July 7, Classes in both online and offline mode will run simultaneously. Parents will be given choice to choose from either of the models, said a senior officer in the Bihar education department, as per a report of News18.
As per a report of India TV, AIIMS Chief Dr Randeep Guleria on Sunday said, that making COVID-19 vaccine available for children will pave the way for reopening of schools and resumption of outdoor activities for them.

As per a report of Live Hindustan, 42 percent of parents want to opening schools from July amid fears of a third wave of Corona. However, 46 per cent are still emphasizing on online studies. The survey was done Private School Association, in which 850 parents of 58 schools were surveyed.

The Telangana government will start the offline classes from July 1. The decision has been taken after examining the reports submitted by the Telangana Medical and Health Department officials. The number of COVID cases in the state is also showing a declining trend.
The Karnataka government has not taken any decision on school reopening in the state. Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwathnarayan said, "At present, schools and colleges are closed. Based on vaccination drive for people above 18 years it will be decided on how to go ahead...However, govt hasn't decided anything on it, we will look into it after discussion,” reported by ANI.
TRSMA president Y Shekhar Rao said, "It would be better if schools are reopened in a phase-wise manner instead of resuming physical classes for all students from July 1,” As reported by Times of India.
The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Director Dr. Randeep Guleria said, "School is the place where individuals grow through different activities. The closure of schools has affected students, especially marginalized ones who can not afford online classes," as per the NDTV report.
He further added, “I personally feel that we should aggressively work on opening schools."
"Schools should ideally reopen, insisting nutrition and psychological health of children are factors that must be considered too, " said Dr Preeti M Galagali, executive board member, Indian Academy of Pediatrics-Karnataka, as per a report by Times of India.
