NCTE to launch portal in mid-September for transition of BA BEd, BSc BEd courses into ITEP

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has announced that it will launch an online portal in mid-September 2025 to provide a final opportunities for recognised stand-alone Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) running 4-year integrated BA BEd and BSc BEd programmes to transition into the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP).
ITEP was launched as a pilot in 42 institutions during the 2023-24 academic session. The flagship course was offered in premier institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), central universities, and other colleges.
Following this, the NCTE mandated the introduction of ITEP, by giving stand-alone colleges three options to proceed: 1. Independently transform by offering two undergraduate programmes, 2. Merge with the multidisciplinary institutions, or 3 collaborate with multidisciplinary institutions within a 10 km radius.

According to the notice dated August 25: “All concerned institutions are advised to be in readiness to apply afresh with all required documents, including proof of being a multidisciplinary institution, as per NCTE guidelines .”
The council emphasised that this will be the last and final opportunity for institutions offering 4-year integrated courses to seek recognition under the revised framework. Institutions that have already been issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) or have transitioned into ITEP will not be required to apply again, it clarified.
The NCTE had earlier extended the timeline for the transition of integrated BA BEd and BSc BEd programmes into ITEP from the academic session 2025–26 to 2026–27, following repeated representations from stakeholders. However, it stated that the new portal to be launched in September will be the final chance to transition.
A detailed public notice regarding the functioning of the NCTE online portal will be issued shortly, the council added.
