NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today issued a notice to the National Board of Education on a plea seeking disclosure of answer keys and question papers of NEET-PG 2024 for ensuring transparency in the selection process. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra noted that the NEET PG exam pattern was changed just three days before the exam and called it “unusual”.

The NBEMS conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post-Graduation (NEET-PG) for admissions MD, MS, post-MBBS, BDS courses on August 11 and the results were declared on August 23. Students have been demanding the board to publish individual raw marks obtained by candidates and the answer keys. They also requested to issue details of the normalisation method for better understanding the marks calculation method.

Many students started flooding social media platforms after scoring unexpectedly low ranks and several also raised suspicion about discrepancies in the ranking process highlighting an inflation on ranks this year.

Senior advocate Vibha Makhija, appearing for aspirants, said that the NBEMS introduced changes in exam pattern three days before the NEET PG exam date. The advocate argued earlier that without question paper and answer key, candidates will not be able to assess their performances in a transparent way.

To which, the counsel for NBE replied that they "haven't done anything new or unusual", the Live Law reported.

Taking a serious note of the arguments put forward, the CJI said: “It is very unusual! Three days before the examinations? students will have a meltdown!” The bench has given the NBE and the Centre a week's time to file a response. The matter will be held next on September 27.
