Try NowNEW DELHI: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting an immediate debate in Parliament tomorrow, July 3, to address the concerns over National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2024.
Gandhi emphasised that the Opposition had repeatedly urged a discussion on the NEET controversy, but these requests were denied in both the Houses of Parliament on June 28.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Rahul Gandhi said, "Our aim is to engage constructively in the interest of 24 lakh NEET aspirants who deserve answers. I believe that it would be fitting if you were to lead this debate. Lakhs of families have made tremendous personal sacrifices to support their children. For many, the paper leak is a betrayal of a lifetime dream."
Over 70 paper leaks in past seven years: Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi stated that in the last seven years, more than 70 such leaks have affected over 2 crore students.
In criticising the government's approach, the Congress leader remarked that the decision to postpone other exams and replace the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) were inadequate measures, merely masking the deeper issues within the education system.
Expansion of Vyapam scam across the country
In a series of strong remarks about the row over medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024, Gandhi had earlier called BJP-ruled states the "epicentre of paper leaks". Pointing to the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh, he noted, "Vyapam happened in Madhya Pradesh. Now the government is spreading it across the nation." He said the students are suffering as the government is not interested in stopping paper leaks.
Congress MP Digvijay Singh raises NTA chairman's VYAPAM link
Congress MP from Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh raised questions on the appointment of NTA Chairman Pradeep Joshi. He said that Joshi should be asked to resign.
Digvijay Singh said, "When Pradeep Joshi became the chairman of Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission, irregularities started happening in the examinations, the paper was leaked, when he went to Chhattisgarh, the paper was leaked there. When he went to UPSC, complaints started coming in. Now Joshi is the NTA chairman. BJP elects such people who eat, feed and do their work as per their wish, the HRD minister did not say anything to the NTA chairman, you should not resign, at least take his resignation, but there is collusion."
NTA's full form has become No Trust Anymore: AAP MP Raghav Chadha
AAP MP Raghav Chadha said, "NTA was constituted saying it will transform the future of the youth and exams will be conducted with transparency, but now NTA's full form has become No Trust Anymore. No student trusts NTA. How did this year so many students score rank 1? Second question: how did mathematically different numbers come in. Third, why was the NEET results declared earlier?" Chadda asked.
Meanwhile, the CBI is investigating the NEET UG 2024 irregularities case. The agency has also arrested six people so far. Apart from this, the Bihar Police has also identified a doctor who paid Rs 4 lakh to the paper solver to ensure his son's success in the medical entrance examination.
