Dharmendra Pradhan to meet VCs of 45 central universities tomorrow

NEW DELHI: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will meet the Vice-Chancellors of 45 central universities tomorrow through virtual mode, according to an official statement.
“Dharmendra Pradhan has been meeting the Vice Chancellors of different Universities during the last month, but this will be the first formal meeting of the Education Minister with the Central Universities’ Vice Chancellors in a group,” the official statement said.
During the meeting, Pradhan and the vice-chancellors will have a discussion on various issues such as implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Academic Bank of Credit (ABC), multiple entry – exit system, open and online education, glue grant for education institutions, start of academic session 2021-22, steps to fill up the backlog vacancies of teachers of SC, ST, OBC and EWS categories, and celebration of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

Recently, Pradhan said that the new NEP 2020 would turn the country into a “global knowledge superpower”, while addressing the 61st foundation day of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
On August 24, Pradhan launched the major initiatives of NEP 2020 and a booklet on one-year achievement of the implementation of the policy, while commemorating the anniversary of NEP 2020.
The various initiatives launched by the education minister include NIPUN Bharat FLN tools and resources on DIKSHA, Virtual School of NIOS, alternate academic calendar 2021-22 of NCERT, Priya- accessibility booklet developed by NCERT in collaboration with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disability, and others.

Karnataka has become the first state to implement NEP 2020 followed by Madhya Pradesh . Karnataka education minister C N Aswath Narayan said that the government has asked colleges to complete the admission process under NEP 2020 by October 1.
