NEP is sowing the seeds for a new age of education: PM Modi

NEW DELHI : Prime minister Narendra Modi, praising the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 on Friday, said that the policy is sowing the seeds for a “new age of education”.
PM Modi was speaking at the two-day conclave on ‘school education in the 21st century’ organised by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education.
PM Modi, during his address at the conclave, said: “We are all part of a moment that is the future of our nation. The National Education Policy will give new direction to education in the 21st century and is sowing the seed for a new age of education.”
Praising the policy for formalising preschool education under the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) scheme, PM Modi said that it will help level the playing field across the nation.
“Preschool education was only present in urban areas in the form of private schools and play schools but now it will reach each village and each student. Foundational literacy and numeracy is very important for students. For students to read to learn, they have to learn to read,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi also stressed on the importance of teaching in a student's native language.
The prime minister said that all the nations that are doing well in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is teaching children in their own native language. PISA is the worldwide assessment for school education conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The conclave was also attended by education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', minister of state (MoS) for education Sanjay Dotre, secretary of Department of School Education and Literacy Anita Karwal and Chair person of the NEP drafting committee K Kasturirangan.
