NMC asks medical colleges to follow INC norms for nursing staff
NMC’s MARB noticed that some medical colleges are not following norms and conditions laid down for staff requirement.

NEW DELHI : The National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked all medical colleges to follow the rules and norms for nursing staff laid down by the Indian Nursing Council. NMC said that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) noticed that some colleges are not adhering to the norms of keeping adequate staff.
“It has been brought to the notice of Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission that some of the colleges are not adhering to the norms and conditions laid down for staff requirement as per NMC notification - all the hospitals shall have adequate staff of various cadres as required and conform to the existing norms. The nursing staff shall conform to the norms as drawn by the Indian Nursing Council from time to time,” said Samir Sinha, deputy secretary, in a notice to medical colleges established with the approval of Medical Council of India (MCI) or by NMC.

“All medical colleges are hereby instructed to follow the above norms and guidelines of MCI for nursing staff,” the notice read.
Recently, NMC amended regulations on establishment of medical colleges and invited feedback on draft amendments . According to the new changes in regulations , universities and deemed-to-be universities will not be required to fulfill the condition of having a “fully functional hospital for a minimum of two years” to set up new medical colleges provided that they fulfill other conditions.
