NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will no longer be conducting the recruitment exams, the Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said while announcing that the NTA will only focus on the college entrance exams. The decision was made based on the recommendations submitted by a high-level committee set by the education ministry.
The NTA is responsible for conducting entrance exams for college admissions and recruitment exams for various posts in universities and high courts. However, the education ministry informed that the testing agency will stop conducting the recruitment exams from next year on.
Along with the plans to restructure NTA with an addition of 10 new posts, the ministry of education also plans to introduce computer-adaptive testing, a tech-driven approach in conducting entrance exams.
These major changes have been notified after several controversies marred the competitive exams administered by the NTA.
A high-level committee was set up by the education ministry in June to suggest reforms in the examination process, improve data security protocols, and the functioning of the NTA. The expert panel was formed after the NEET UG paper leak 2024 and UGC NET exam cancellation 2024 affected lakhs of aspirants across the country.
The NTA has been in the spotlight for various controversies such as impersonation, technical glitches, paper leak, exam security, normalisation process, error in answer key and results.
