School reopening: Karnataka HC has directed the state government to submit a status report on distribution of textbooks, notebooks to students.
NEW DELHI: The Karnataka High Court has directed the state government to file a status report on steps taken to provide textbooks and notebooks to all Class 9 and 10 students, according to a Live Law report. The court said that asking students to attend schools without textbooks and notebooks is “meaningless and purposeless”.

The state government had informed a division bench of Justice B V Nagarathna and Justice P Krishna Bhat that the government will provide textbooks to all students in a phased manner by September end, as per the report.
The court replied, "Notebooks and textbooks are very important. The printing of the textbooks have to be in consonance with the opening of schools. You cannot open schools and not give the paraphernalia,” the report said.
According to the Live Law report, the court orally said: "Concentrate on this first (printing of textbooks or notebooks). When you open schools, textbooks should go hand in hand. Otherwise, it will be futile. Printing of textbooks must keep pace with the opening of schools.”

The Karnataka government allowed school reopening for Classes 9 to 12 on Monday. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had taken the decision of reopening of schools on August 6 after he held a meeting with the education and health experts on the situation of COVID-19 in the state.
