NEW DELHI: As the COVID-19 situation is improving, students are asking, when will school reopen in India? They are eager to know when schools will reopen in their state. Schools and colleges across the nation had been closed since March 2020 following the nationwide lockdown.

Seeing the COVID-19 situation, states are resuming physical classes for students of Classes 9 to 12. Some states like Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh have already reopened schools in their state. Whereas, other states are expected to reopen schools within one or two weeks.
Most of the states who reopened schools allowed only 50% capacity of students and that too not mandatory. States like Uttar Pradesh have made clear that their schools can be closed again if the COVID-19 situation worsens.
Parents are concerned about the health of their children. They are also not willing to send their child to school. But, the schools and state governments are assuring to follow COVID-19 safety protocols and guidelines to avoid any inconvenience. Schools in Tamil Nadu will reopen for Classes 9-12 from September 1, 2021 with 50% attendance. As per the new SOP issued by the Tamil Nadu government, the schools will remain open six days a week and classes will be split into batches where only 20 students will be allowed per classroom, reported NDTV.
Schools in Madhya Pradesh will reopen for Classes 6 to 12 with 50% attendance from September 1, 2021. From September 1, all government and non-government schools of Classes 6 to 12 in the state will reopen with 50% student capacity every day, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced on Friday.

Jharkhand is all set to reopen schools up to Class 8th. As per the report of IANS, Jharkhand education secretary Rajesh Sharma has informed all the DSEs to repair benches and start sanitizing the schools. The Jharkhand government had reopened schools for classes 9 to 12. However, attendance is quite low in these classes.

As per a report of ANI, Delhi government has decided to reopen schools from September 1, in a phased manner. The senior students will attend the school first, following the middle-level class students and then primary class students. Physical classes for students of class 6 to class 8 will start from September 8, 2021.

The Telangana government announced to reopen all schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in the state including Anganwadi centres from September 1, 2021. Telangana Recognised School Managements Association (TRSMA) has urged the State government to follow other states and reopen schools for physical classes, reported Telangana Today.
Earlier, the Himachal government had reopened the schools for offline classes of 10 and 12 students. Later, the government announced that all schools except for residential schools will remain closed till August 22. However, teaching and non-teaching staff shall attend the school.

Earlier, state education minister Varsha Gaikwad had said that the final decision will be taken in a few days as views from other stakeholders are being taken.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday has said that the government is taking measures for ensuring the safety of students during classroom learning. "We have taken extreme care to ensure classroom learning for students while protecting them from Covid-19. We are taking necessary steps in this direction", CM Bommai was quoted as saying by PTI.
Karnataka is all set to resume classes from 9 to 12 from August 23, 2021.

Congrees leader D.K. Shivakumar has said that the health of students should be the top priority of the government. He said that the government should ensure to make all necessary arrangements for student's safety. Several media reports claimed that students in government schools hoping that classes should be conducted smoothly without any hassle. Reports said many did not have access to e-resources and the reopening of classes will help them to make up what is lost during COVID-19. Many schools will reopen from Monday.
