Sheffield University UK offers MA international development; international students can apply for 2025 intake

To apply to MA international development at Sheffield University, students should have a Bachelor’s degree with at least 60% marks, and an IELTS score of at least 6.5.
Sheffield University UK is offering admission to international students for its MA international development programme. The course is taught collaboratively by the school of geography and planning, and the school of sociological studies, politics, and international relations.
Through this Master’s programme, students can explore “social and environmental justice, rural and urban development, and sustainability through research-led teaching and hands-on pedagogical approaches”.
The core modules of the course are based on interdisciplinary teaching, combining policy with concepts like sustainability, poverty, and the differing ideas of ‘development’. There are a variety of optional modules available to students, like food security, public health, urban development, and climate change.
Sheffield University eligibility criteria
The eligibility criteria for MA in international development is as follows:
- A 3-year or 4-year Bachelor’s degree with minimum 60% marks.
- Overall IELTS grade of 6.5, with a minimum 6.0 score in each component.
Students will also get the chance to opt for an international field class - in which students will get to experience hands-on community engagement and policy implementation in one week of activities. The location for this class will depend upon the number of students participating. Students from previous batches have visited Peru, Nepal and Tanzania for the field class.
Sheffield University also offers a low-cost ‘hybrid’ field class, as an alternative. This module requires a minimum number of students to be registered in order to be functional.
Sheffield University fee for international students
The yearly fees for international students is 27, 670 pounds sterling for the MA in international development programme. The University of Sheffield also offers an international postgraduate taught scholarship 2025. It is applicable for a discount of 2,000 pounds sterling on the total tuition fee for Indian students.
To avail this scholarship, students must have accepted their Sheffield University offer before July 8, 2025, before 4 pm (UK time).
The UK Master’s programme will involve a research-based dissertation. It can be based on placements, research collaboration, or independent research done by the student. Placement-based research opportunities will contribute towards valuable work experience for the students.
It should be noted that the cost for placements and optional field classes is not included in the tuition fee. Interested students can access university funding for these through a competitive process.
