Sri Lanka’s institute invites applications for UG scholarships; eligibility criteria, application deadline

NEW DELHI: The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) has invited applications from Indian students for undergraduate scholarships. Interested students can apply for the scholarship through the high commission or embassy of Sri Lanka. The last date to apply is February 29, 2024.

“The Sri Lanka lnstitute of lnformation Technology (SlllT), Sri Lanka through Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka is inviting applications from students from the countries in the South Asian Region for undergraduate scholarships,” said an official notice from the external scholarship division, department of higher education, ministry of education.

The education ministry informed that the selection of students for scholarships will be done directly by SLIIT and the Indian government has no role in it.

The SLIIT scholarship scheme will cover the full tuition fee but won’t cover the cost of meals, traveling, visa renewal, and other expenses.

SLIIT Scholarship: Eligibility criteria

The eligibility criteria for a SLIIT scholarship shall be determined on the basis of,

  • The performance at the GCE Advanced Level Examination (London or equivalent) namely passing three subjects in the specified stream at one and the same sitting or acquiring eligibility to gain admission to a bachelor’s degree programme of the nominated discipline in a university in the home country, and
  • The official nomination by the home country
  • The candidates for SLIIT Scholarships shall be nominees from the countries in the South Asia region.
  • The scholar will be required to maintain good academic standing during the study programme.
  • The annual renewal or termination of the scholarship will depend on maintaining a Cumulative
  • Grade Point (CGPA) as deemed satisfactory by the SLIIT Management.

SLIIIT Scholarship: Highlights

The duration of the scholarship shall be three years in case of a three year degree programme and four years in the case of an honours degree programme of SLIIT.

The value of a four-year SLIIT scholarship will be in the range of 10,000 - 25,000 US dollars for information technology, engineering, business administration, humanities and sciences degree programmes.

Candidates applying for the scholarship will have to submit the following documents:

  • International student primary application
  • Copy of the GCE Advanced Level Certificate and transcript (London or equivalent) in proof of the successful completion of the admission requirement stipulated. [In case of a qualification equivalent to the London advanced level, the certificate or transcript shall be accompanied by a certification by the Examination Board of the country concerned that the holder has satisfied the admission requirements to a bachelor’s degree programme in a university in the home country.
  • Copy of the page containing the photograph and personal details in the passport.
  • Copy of certificate of birth
