No holiday for Tamil Nadu schools on Friday; TN fact-check unit debunks holiday rumour

The Tamil Nadu government's fact-check unit stated that the viral rumour about government holiday was generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
The Tamil Nadu government’s Fact-check Unit has debunked the rumours claiming that all schools, colleges, and government offices in the state will be closed on Friday. The fake news, which is widely circulating on social media, is generated by artificial intelligence (AI), the officials said, clarifying that all schools in Tamil Nadu will remain open on June 6.
“Prime Minister Modi has declared a national public holiday on Friday (06.06.2025), so all schools, government offices and banks will not function,” the fake news read. In a swift response, the fact-check unit confirmed that no such announcement has been made by the Tamil Nadu government.
The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has also clarified that schools for all classes will remain open on Friday.
The Tamil Nadu government has declared 24 public holidays for government employees in the year 2024-25. As per which, the state will observe a public holiday on June 7 on account of Bakrid. Besides public holidays, the state also declares government holidays for the offices under the control of the TN government.
Some states including Kerala and Telangana have declared holiday on June 6 in connection with Eid al-Adha. Bakrid will be observed on June 7 this year.
