UGC allows additional 11 universities to offer open distance learning courses
The Distance Education Bureau at UGC released an additional list of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) with recognised programmes under open distance learning mode.

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) allowed 11 more universities to offer open distance learning courses for the academic session starting in November 2021 to 2025-26. This list was based on the Standard Appellate Committee Meeting (SAC) held on June 30 and July 1.
The 11 universities to offer open distance learning courses are situated in Gujrat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
The first list of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) with recognised programmes was released on March 10. The details for the recognised HEIs have already been sent through the UGC-DEB portal.
In the 551th meeting of the committee, the UGC decided that the academic session 2021 for these programmes will start in November and the last date for admission will be December 15.
Only the HEIs with recognised programmes under open distance learning by the UGC can start the admission process, the commission said.
HEIs which are waiting for the approval from UGC cannot in anticipation offer admissions to any open distance learning programmes, it added.
The UGC had recently added four universities to the list of 38 HEIs offering online degree programmes on July 29. The universities approved by UGC to offer online degreeMahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Tamil Nadu, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, West Bengal and Bharathiar University, Tamil Nadu.
