UGC identifies 611 acres of land for Andhra Pradesh's Central Tribal University: Report

NEW DELHI: The Union Grants Commission has identified 611 acres of land for the Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh, as per a Deccan Chronicle report.

A team headed by the secretary of UGC, Rajnish Jain, visited Vizianagaram on Wednesday, September 29 and identified land between the area of Gajapathinagaram and Salur along the Raipur highway road, the report said.

TV Kattimani, vice-chancellor of CTU told Deccan Chronicle that he met collector Suryakumari to block the land for the university and get clearance from the state government.

While the UGC team asked the state revenue department to check for construction, possibility and water facility at the identified land apart from road and rail connectivity, it asked the state government to sanction the land as soon as possible in order to begin the construction work in a phased manner, as per the report.

Kattimani said that they are presently running the CTU at a rented building allocated at the Andhra University PG Centre here. Once the CTU is ready with its own buildings and infrastructure, they will be shifted from here. Last year nearly 180 students were admitted to the CTU, he added, as per the report.

Recently, Jharkhand’s tribal affairs minister Champai Soren said that the land for the tribal university in Jharkhand has been finalised and construction work will start soon. Jharkhand’s first tribal university will be set up near Jamshedpur.

Some sources in the chief minister Hemant Soren’s office said that over 20 acres of land have been identified near Galudih, situated at a distance of 35km from Jamshedpur city, for the university.

Moreover, Union tribal affairs minister Arjun Munda, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aims to ensure equity and inclusion and has given a national perspective to the education of tribals.
