NEW DELHI: The Uttarakhand government has decided to recruit English language and computer experts for government schools in the state to help students get better in these subjects, as per a New Indian Express report.

According to the report, Banshidhar Tiwari, director-general, education, said: “This will enable the students of the government schools to overcome the hesitation they face in English language and computer skills.”

“This will create over 30,000 job opportunities in the state,” he added, as per the report.

The state government is also mulling over merging around 1,500 schools with other schools in order to provide better resources to students and teachers, the report said.

As per the report, Ramakrishna Uniyal, director, basic education, Uttarakhand, said: “The move will create better facilities and infrastructure for students and teachers. This is an ongoing process which will soon be implemented.”

On July 31, the state education department issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for reopening of schools for Classes 9 to 12 on August 1 and Classes 6-8 on August 16 including private and government, day schools and boarding schools.

A nodal officer was appointed to ensure Covid appropriate behaviour on part of the students and take action in case of any violations.

Schools for Classes 1-5 reopened on September 21 only for three hours a day. The option of online education will also be available to students of these classes, according to an order issued by the department of school education.

Wearing of masks, social distancing and frequent hand sanitising will be compulsory for all students, teachers and members of staff, as per the order.

If anyone on the school premises develops COVID-19 like symptoms such as fever, cough or cold, the nodal officer in consultation with the school management and the principal will immediately inform the district administration and health authorities, it stated.
