NEW DELHI : West Bengal Education Minister, Partha Chatterjee announced that the state government has decided to reduce the Class 10 and 12 syllabus by 30% in wake of Covid-19. The syllabus will be reduced for the academic year 2020-21 due to school closure for around 7 months. The decision was made as per the recommendations of an expert panel.

“We have been receiving requests for this from parents, students, and various teachers' cells. Our West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, and our expert committee have made some recommendations. Based on that we have decided to reduce the syllabus of secondary and higher secondary levels. 30-35 per cent syllabus will be reduced" said Chatterjee during a press conference, as reported by The Indian Express .

Along with this, he also informed that the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education will announce Class 10 and 12 exam dates for next year.

The Indian Express quoted Chatterjee saying “The schools have been closed for a long time. The department of school education will first ensure that schools take necessary measures for maintaining Covid-19 safety norms before they reopen. Proper sanitisation work and safety measures need to be taken before allowing schools to reopen.”
