40% courses per semester can be through SWAYAM: UGC
The UGC has raised the limit on the online component in a regular degree programme to 40% of the course each semester.

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC), increasing the online learning component in higher education, has allowed institutions to offer upto 40 percent of courses per semester through online mode. Earlier the UGC had allowed 20 percent of the course to be delivered online.
The UGC has notified the new regulations, ‘Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds Regulations, 2021’ which will allow an institution to offer upto 40 percent of the total courses in a semester through online learning using the government’s e-learning platform, SWAYAM platform.
UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain in his letter to vice-chancellors and heads of institution has requested them to go through the new UGC Regulations and take appropriate action for adoption of Massive Open Online Course (MOOCs) courses through Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) platform for the benefit of the students.
The UGC letter says: “The SWAYAM courses are designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of India's Education Policy: access, equity and quality. The University Grants Commission as National Coordinator for Non-Technology PG Courses developed 145 MOOCs and offered 208 MOOCs (some have been re-run) on the SWAYAM Platform.”
