The UGC has allowed the universities to conduct admission into PhD programmes using UGC NET score, which will account for 70% of merit assessment.
NEW DELHI: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) unit of Allahabad University has demanded the withdrawal of level-1 requirement in the Combined Research Entrance Test (CRET) of the university and the adoption of UGC NET scores for admission into its PhD programmes.
In a recent directive the University Grants Commission (UGC), has allowed the universities to conduct admission into PhD programmes using UGC NET scores. Allahabad University conducts admission to its PhD programmes through the CRET. The students’ organisation urged for prompt implementation of the UGC guidelines by Allahabad University from the upcoming session.
The ABVP said that the new guidelines regarding the PhD admission process are simple as well as transparent. It added that the UGC has specified that for PhD admissions through NET, the UGC NET scores will account for 70% of merit assessment for candidates applying in categories 2 and 3. The remaining 30% marks will be determined on the basis of interviews, it added.
UGC guidelines will bring transparency
“This streamlined approach simplifies the process for candidates and obviates the need for multiple university entrance exams,” the ABVP said.
Expressing confidence in the new UGC guidelines, ABVP Allahabad University unit urged for relief for candidates and enhanced fairness in the admission process in the university's research entrance examination.
