Delhi govt planned for 11,000 classrooms but built 12,430 high-tech classrooms, says Arvind Kejriwal
NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has inaugurated 12,430 new classrooms across 240 government schools today. In the last seven years, 20,000 new classrooms have been set up, he said. The inauguration took place at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Rajokri.
“We had planned for 11,000 classrooms but ended up building 12,430 high-tech classrooms across 240 schools in just 3 years. This is what happens when you elect an honest government,” said Kejriwal. He further said that the infrastructure in Delhi government schools has improved providing facilities such as laboratories, multi-purpose halls, digital classrooms, and the latest technology for teaching, and hence gives competition to private schools.

According to Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, only the Delhi government spent one-fourth of its budget on education. “Delhi’s government schools boast of better infrastructure than private schools today,” he said. Sisodia further said that about 3,70,000 students have shifted to Delhi’s government schools from private schools. He also said that the infrastructure has been developed by the government, but it is up to teachers and students to make use of these infrastructures and turn those into flourishing schools.
