BITS Pilani, Goa University to work on academic, research projects

BTech, MTech, BE, ME, BSc, MSc, MA, PhD students of Goa University and its affiliated colleges will be able to visit the BITS Pilani campus.

NEW DELHI: BITS Pilani, KK Birla Goa campus, has signed an agreement with Goa University (GU) to foster academic and research in areas of mutual interest. The two educational institutes will collaborate in research projects and publications, joint workshops, seminars and conferences.

As per the agreement, students of Goa University and its affiliated colleges will be able to pursue PhD programmes and project work at BITS Pilani. The faculty members and students of the two institutes will be able to exchange academic and scholarly information.

The faculty members of BITS Pilani and Goa University will also collaborate in supervision of students and in joint research in disciplines of mutual interest. “GU and its affiliated colleges will send BTech, M Tech, BE, ME, BSc, MSc, MA, PhD students to the BITS Pilani campus. The agreement will facilitate in providing GU students an opportunity to explore the option to undertake a research project at BITS Pilani and be considered for admission to PhD programme at BITS Pilani,” the institute said.

Sandwich model for doctoral course

The students had been advised to take research projects that satisfy the credit requirements for the courses registered at GU. The institutes have proposed to explore the possibility of a sandwich model of doctoral programmes under which students registered with the GU and BITS Pilani will be able to visit each other’s campus for a minimum six to twelve months period for their research work.

Director of BITS Pilani, Goa, Suman Kundu said, “BITS Pilani is synonymous with world-class education and research capabilities. Goa University vice-chancellor Harilal B Menon said, “The strategic partnership is aimed at enhancing educational opportunities in parallel with the National Education Policy based curriculum, which the university has already implemented across the state of Goa at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.”
