Delhi University Admission 2021: How DU cut-off is calculated; Marks deduction rules

NEW DELHI: The University of Delhi will release the DU first cut-off list 2021 on October 1. Delhi University on Monday announced the schedule of DU cut-off 2021 and admission dates for all the rounds on its admission portal. As per the DU admission schedule, DU will release five cut offs and one special drive cut-off lists. If the seats remain vacant after the third round, it will release one special cut off for the students who could apply in the previous rounds despite being eligible.

Around 70,000 seats are up for the students in the various undergraduate merit based programmes this year. The university has received 4,38,696 applications for UG admissions. The DU cut-off release has been delayed this year to accommodate the students who have appeared for CBSE Class 12 compartment and improvement examinations.

DU Cut-Off 2021: Calculating best-of-four score

The Delhi University cut-off list is prepared using the DU’s best of four calculation that considers the marks obtained by the students in the Class 12th exam. The best of four methods of Delhi University include one language subject and three academic subjects filled up by the candidates during the registration process. The subjects must also include the one in which the candidate wishes to seek admission in.

For programmes under faculty of sciences and applied sciences admissions are done on the basis of top three academic subjects, except for BA (Pass) Home Science. The DU cut off list for BA (Pass Home Science) is prepared taking into account the best of three academic subjects and English as a compulsory language subject.

DU Cut-off: Marks-deduction rules

In case of admissions to BA Hons in a language programme, if a candidate has not studied a language in the last qualifying examination there will be a deduction of 5% in the total best of four marks. Candidates who wish to take admissions to BA Hons programme in non language programme must have studied the concerned subject to avoid the deduction of 2.5% in the aggregate DU’s best of four calculation. To take admissions in BA Hons. Economics candidates must have passed maths as one of the subjects in Class 12 exam.

The cut-off list of DU 2021 for BCom Hons and BCom programmes will be prepared considering the marks of the students in one language and any three subjects among mathematics, economics, accountancy and business studies/commerce.

The Delhi University aspirants can expect higher DU cut-offs this year as more than 70,000 students scored more than 95 percentage marks in the Class 12 CBSE board result. DU's Rajdhani College principal, Rajesh Giri told PTI that the students will see a two per cent increase in cut-offs for all courses in comparison to the last year. The Delhi University admissions will be held completely online this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
